After 21 Jump Street grossed $200 million from a $42 million budget, it’s little surprise that Sony wants a sequel, but it is quite unusual they’re pushing one through so quick, as according to a THR interview with Sony exec. Mark Belgrad, it could shoot as early as this autumn.
Tatum and Hill were presumably contracted for a sequel when they signed up for the first film, and Belgrad says they’ll both be back for the follow-up. The exec is particularly excited about Tatum, saying “There are very few actors who can do romance, action and comedy. Were in business with two of them, Channing Tatum and Will Smith.
And talking of Smith, Belgrad says there’s already talk of Men In Black 4, following the $600 million success on the third installment. He says, “We believe it is an ongoing franchise, he said. “Were going to do [another one], but we dont have clarity yet on how it should be done.
He also mentions that there’s a reboot of Jumanji in the works. That would seem a good idea, as a lot of kids love the plot of the 1995 movie, although the film itself is pretty flawed.
The interview has also led to a lot of speculation that Marc Webb won’t return to direct Amazing Spider-man 2, but Belgrad doesn’t actually say. He merely gives a diplomatic answer saying they’d like him back but nothing has been signed.
