Brave Conquers The US Box Office – With Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter coming a weak third

25th June 2012 By Tim Isaac

Brave has continued Pixar’s impressive box office run, becoming the studio’s 13th straight movie to debut at number one on the box office chart. The film took $66.7 million in its first three days, ahead of expectations, which had suggested it would open in the $55-$60 million range. It’s great news for the studio, especially after slightly disappointing box office for last year’s Cars 2.

Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter had less to cheer about, as after a string of bad reviews, it took only $16.5 million to place third on the cart, behind the second weekend of Madagascar 3. As the film cost $70 million, it’s only chance of recouping its costs now lie with strong home video sales, especially as its resolutely American topic may make it an even tougher sell internationally.

The only other new entry in the top 10 was the Steve Carrell and Keira Knightley film Seeking A Friend At The End Of The World, which took just $3.8 million to place 10th. It’s undoubtedly disappointing as the hope had been that the presence of Carrell would at least provide a boost.

7 That’s My Boy $7.9 $28.1
8 The Avengers $7.0 $598.3
9 Men In Black 3 $5.6 $163.3
10 Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World $3.8 $3.8
