Pixar turned up at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas yesterday to big up their upcoming movie slate and make a few announcements. Deadline reports that John Lasseter and co. took to the stage and announced a new movie, with Lee Unkrich (Toy Story 3, Finding Nemo) directing a movie based around the Mexican holiday of Dia De Los Muertos.
The ‘day of the dead’ takes place in early November and sees family gather to remember the dead. The event is a mix of sadness and celebration, and famously uses skeleton symbolism, which will undoubtedly be part of Pixar’s film. As always though when the animation company first announces a movie, they’re not saying too much about the plot, leaving us to speculate.
Last year Pixar revealed they were working on a film about dinosaurs. At CinemaCon they’ve announced that movie is now called The Good Dinosaur, but we still don’t know much more than that the basic story looks at what would have happened if the dino-destroying asteroid had missed Earth and dinosaurs never became extinct. It’s currently set for US release May 2014.
There’s also been a bit of release date swapping, as Pete Docter’s untitled Pixar movie that takes place inside the mind has moved back substantially from November 2013 to June 2015, with Disney’s Snow Queen based animation Frozen move into the vacated 2013 slot.
