Michael Pitt could have charted a course into the mainstream, but he’s always flirted round the edge of that, only dipping into it when he gets a particularly interesting role such as his recent stint in Boardwalk Empire. Otherwise he’s stuck with more interesting projects.
Now he’s starting to pu together his own movies and he’s planning to star in and produce You Can’t Win, based on Jack Black’s (no, not that one) 1928 semi-autobiographical book about his travels. Black spent time amongst the hobos, infiltrating their secret world and hopping onto freight trains to travel the US.
Robinson Devor (Zoo) will direct, with him and Pitt working on the script alongside Barry Gifford and Charles Mudede.
Pitt has always seemed like he could be a big star, but has chosen not to go down that route, and while You Can’t Win is unlikely to put him into the a-list, it could well be another interesting film from the actor.
