The Black List is put together each year based on what are supposed to be the best unproduced screenplays doing the rounds in Hollywood, although some have suggested it’s actually a list of the quirkiest ‘look at me’ scripts around. We’ll have to wait and see which The Flamingo Thief is, although it’s just moved closer to the big screen as Variety reports actor Will Ferrell has signed on to star.
Michael LeSieur (You, Me and Dupree) wrote the screenplay, which is adapted from the Susan Trott novel and centres on Will Ferrell’s character, Tim Forrester, a grief-stricken man who starts stealing flamingo figurines after his wife leaves him. Well, who wouldn’t.
Ben Stiller and Stuart Cornfeld are producing through their Red Hour Films banner, with Aaron Kaplan and Sean Perrone executive producing for Kaplan/Perrone Entertainment. No director is attached to the project as of yet, although the producers have already begun their search.
