Once upon a time Joel Schumacher was a major director who could get pretty much any project financed, but now he can barely get an indie movie made or stay with a film long enough to get it shot. According to Variety, he’s been dropped from another one, as Brad Anderson, best known for directing Session 9 and The Machinist, has replaced Schumacher at the helm of The Hive.
The film is about a 911 operator who works to save a girl from a serial killer and must face her own fears in the process. When it was first announced, it sounded like the sort of thing Phone Booth director Schumacher could handle, but Anderson is definitely a step up.
Screenwriter Rich D’Ovidio, whose previous work includes Thir13en Ghosts and Exit Wounds, wrote the script and while Halle Berry was originally attached to star, she’s been forced to drop out due to scheduling conflicts. Other top actresses are now being looked at, but it isn’t known who’s in the frame.
Production on the film is scheduled to begin this spring.
