With Werner Herzog you should always expect the unexpected, as for decades he’s had a reputation as a slightly nutty filmmaker whose diverse works have ranged from the ridiculously arty to the almost mainstream in both fiction and documentary forms. However now he’s taking a step few would ever have thought he would. as he’s turning actor to play the villain in a Tom Cruise movie.
Werner Herzog will play The Zec, a former prisoner-of-war who stages a sniper killing at a mall, which results in five casualties. The story centres on Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher, a former military police officer who investigates the shooting. Rosamund Pike, David Oyelowo, Richard Jenkins, and Robert Duvall also star.
Christopher McQuarrie is directing One Shot from his own screenplay, which is adapted from the Lee Child’s novel of the same name. This will be Herzog’s first major acting role, although he has made cameo appearances in The Grand, What Dreams May Come, Mister Lonely, and Julien Donkey-boy. It’s certainly an interesting move from the director of Grizzly Man, Bad Lieutenant and Fitzcarraldo. (Source: Variety)
