Along with Chris Nolan, JJ Abrams is the king of the ‘let’s be secretive about everything’ club, to the point where you feel he’d prefer not to let anyone talk about his projects even once they’ve been released. The result is we get stories like the one today, which says Abrams has something up his sleeve, but we don’t know what.
Deadline reports that Paramount has just bought a pitch from Abrams and screenwriter Billy Ray, with the only info on it being that it’s a mystery adventure. Billy Ray has written the likes of Flightplan, Breach and State Of Play, and he’s currently working on a revisionistic take on Peter Pan, Paul Greengrass’ A Captain’s Duty and the screen version of the TV show 24. He has plenty of experience, but it’s tough to tell from his CV what the new movie might be.
It’s not certain either if Abrams plans to direct or just produce, but he’s highly involved, having helped to come up with the idea in the first place. If this is a potential pirecting project, it’ll have to wait, as JJ recently confirmed that he’ll be maing Star Trek 2 next.
