Originally released in 2007 in Thailand, Brave stars Michael B. as Pairote, an expert in martial arts who has been made to steal customer information from a bank on behalf of the Mafia, who have kidnapped his brother. Well, thats ostensibly what its about, but when watching the film, it is hard to work out the plot.
Thanapon Maliwans feature focuses much more on the action than narrative, but even for fans of the genre this may be a disappointment. It is hard to engage with such one-dimensional characters, who we are introduced to without any background knowledge. The dialogue is pretty corny and scenes seem to go back and forth between attempts at humour and action sequences, with little substance in between. The opening scene of our hero entering an office building and ordering fast food from various different places, then engaging in martial arts with the employees, is an example of this.
Other aspects worth mentioning are the clichéd soundtrack and settings, which all aim to give a picture of a high-tech, fast-paced action flick, but left me feeling bored and disappointed.
All in all, the characterisation and plot could do with some fleshing out. Watch if youre a fan of stunts and martial arts, but its not really worth a look.
Overall Verdict: A sub-standard action film that will not satisfy those looking for an entertaining plot to go with it.
