For ages it seemed Mark Wahlberg and director David O’Russell wanted nothing more in the world than to work together again, but with O’Russell renowned for being a bit pernickety about his projects, it hasn’t really worked out, with the result that Wahlberg recently signed up for the thriller 2 Guns, just as O’Russell, who’d been attached the film for quite a while, left.
Now it appears Wahlberg has a new best friend, as he’s brought director Baltasar Kormákur onboard to direct. The duo just worked together on Contraband, so perhaps Wahlberg is trying to make O’Russell jealous by suggesting he’s moved on to a new directing paramour.
Based on a comic written by Steven Grant, 2 Guns follows a DEA agent and an undercover naval intelligence office that have been ordered to investigate each other, without either realising the other is part of the law enforment community. They soon find out that they have been double-crossed by the mob, who they both believed they were stealing money from. It isn’t clear which undercover cop Wahlberg has come on board to play.
The movie was originally being eyed at one point as an Owen Wilson and Vince Vaughn vehicle, but it’s believed the more comedic aspects are now being jettisoned for an action thriller approach. (Source: Variety)
