Steve Carell has spent his time since leaving The Office signing up for an almost ridiculous number of movies. However it seems he feels he’s got room for at least one more, as Variety announces he’s attached to a movie Foxcatcher, which appears it could be a bit more dramatic than we’re used to from Carell.
Moneyball and Capote helmer Bennett Miller is set to helm. Indeed he’s been working on it so long that it was meetings with Brad Pitt about Foxcatcher that led to the actor bringing Miller in to Moneyball. Now the baseball movie is out of the way, Miller is back of Foxcatcher, with Carell set to star.
It could be a fascinating film, as Steve would be playing John Du Pont, heir to the Du Pont family, who was convicted of murdering Olympic Gold Medal winning wrestler, David Schultz. No motive was ever established, which may be because Du Pont was diagnosed with schizophrenia, so it was all in his own head. After the shooting, Du Pont then holed himself up in his mansion for two days while negotiating with the police. Indeed it’s the mansion and farm that give the movie its name, suggesting the film will concentrate on this bit of the multimillionaire’s life.
