Jay & Seth Vs. The Apocalypse could either be an immesely fun union of young comedy film talent, or a hideous vanity project that might have been fun to make, but is too much of an in-joke to watch. The Jay and Seth of the titles are Jay Baruchel and Seth Rogen, who end up taking on the end of the world in the film.
Now they’ve got some company, as Rogen says it looks like Danny McBride, James Franco, Jonah Hill and Craig Robinson are all coming onboard the film. He told MTV, “We’ve decided to add more people, so ideally ‘Jay and Seth’ looks like it has become Jay, Seth, Jonah, Danny, Craig and James.”
However while that quite a cast, it looks like many others in Tinsel Town are wondering whether the movie is a bit too much on an in-joke, as Rogen told Coming Soon at the Toronto International Film Festival that, “We’re packaging the whole movie right now… and trying to approach the financing from a different way than we normally would to try and assure as much creative control as possible.” That can either be taken at face value, or it means they’ve had to look at other ways of financing as no one wants to pay for it.
Rogen adds that the plot sees “A movie about a bunch of friends who are stuck in a house together as the apocalypse happens outside and they kind of barricade themselves in. They think they’ve kind of survived the worst and then they realise they all really can’t stand to be around each other as they’re stuck in this house together.”
It might be okay, but the edgy R-rated comedy has already seen the departure of one potential star, as while Daniel Radcliffe was rumoured for a role, Rogen says “It doesn’t like like Daniel Radcliffe is willing to push things as far as we are.”
