Things have been fairly quiet on the Jon Turteltaub front since Sorcerer’s Apprentice flopped spectacularly last year, but it appears the National Treasure helmer is ready to get back behind the camera, as Variety reports he’s signed up to direct the comedy Last Vegas.
The project has been floating around since August 2009, when Peter Chelsom was attached to direct, and then early last year Jack Nicholson was offered the lead role in the movie, but it’s not known if he’s still involved at all. Dan Fogelman wrote the screenplay, which centres on four best friends in their 60s who escape to Las Vegas to throw a bachelor party for the last single man in the group. So it’s basically a senior citizens version of The Hangover.
It could be quite fun, but why is Hollywood only interested in older people if it can show them misbehaving? I suppose it’s better than only having them sat in an old folk’s home dribbling, but it would be nice to have a few more rounded aging characters in the movie.
