A while ago, it was revealed that amongst the myriad projects on James Franco’s pile was directing an adaptation of Blood Meridian, by No Country For Old Men author, Cormac McCarthy. However it appears that idea has been put on hold, although Franco isn’t about the give up on McCarthy entirely.
We Got This Covered got the word from the actor himself at the Toronto Film Festival. He told them, We shot a 20 minute test of it (Blood Meridian) that turned out pretty well we were gearing up to do the feature but that for various reasons its on hold, but we are going to make a movie based on his (Cormac McCarthys) third book Child Of God.
There’s not much more word than that, but here’s the book’s synopsis, courtesy of Wikipedia, ‘Set in mountainous Sevier County, Tennessee, Child of God tells the story of Lester Ballard, a dispossessed, violent man whom the narrator describes as a child of God much like yourself perhaps. Ballards life is a disastrous attempt to exist outside the social order. Successively deprived of parents and homes and with few other ties, Ballard descends literally and figuratively to the level of a cave dweller as he falls deeper into crime and degradation.’ The novel apparently deals a lot with sexual deviancy inclusing necrophilia and pedophilia, which doesn’t exactly sounds a barrel of laughs, but perhaps Franco can make it work.
