Postman Pat could have hit the Hollywood a-list any time he wanted, but his dedication to delivering letters in Greendale has meant that for the past 30 years (yup, it’s his 30th birthday!) he’s been content on children’s TV (plus, Jess probably wouldn’t tinsel town). However he’s finally heeded the calls and now it’s been announced that Pat will be starring in his very own movie!
The film, Postman Pat: The Movie You Know Youre the One, will arrive in cinemas during the spring of 2013 – and it’ll be in 3D no less. A starry cast has been lined up for the film, with Stephen Mangan as Postman Pat (poor old Ken Barrie seems to have been jettisoned as ol’ Pat), along with Jim Broadbent, Rupert Grint and David Tennant.
The movie finds Pat, everyones favourite postman, coming face-to-face with the temptations of money, status and a shiny new suit when he enters a national TV talent show competition that threatens to tear him away from his hometown of Greendale and the friends he loves. What happens when kindness meets selfishness? When local fame meets global notoriety? A nice cup of tea is kicked aside by a frappacappucino? Pat is set to find out as he falls for the age old temptation of the grass being greener
However the more pertinent question is who’s delivering the post in Greendale if Pat is poncing about on TV?
Mangan commented, I’m absolutely thrilled to be playing the world’s best-known postman in his big screen debut – he’s an iconic British hero and it’s a great script. However when I excitedly told my 3 year old son that I was going to be Postman Pat, he said, ‘No you’re not, dad, don’t be silly.
Mike Disa (Hoodwinked Too! Hood vs. Evil) will direct from a screenplay co-written by the Kim Fuller (Spice World, High Heels & Low Lifes) and Annika Bluhm (long-time Producer of the Postman Pat television series).
