The possessor of the best-sound surname in showbusines, British actor David Oyelowo, is certainly finding his feet in Hollywood. First coming to prominence on UK TV in early series of Spooks, he’s more recently starred in Rise of the Planet of the Apes and will soon be seen in The Help, Red Tails and The Paperboy.
Now his career trajectory is rising even higher, with THR reporting that he has joined the cast of One Shot. The movie is based on one of Lee Childs’ novels about Jack Reacher (Tom Cruise), a former military police officer who looks into the case of a sniper arrested for murdering five people in a mall (we’ll ignore the fact in the novel Reacher well over six foot and 270 pounds, and that Cruise, well, isn’t). David Oyelowo is onboard to play a homicide detective investigating the shooting. Rosamund Pike also recently signed on to play a district attorney who helps Jack Reacher with his investigation.
Christopher McQuarrie will direct One Shot from his own adapted screenplay, with shooting starting this autumn in Pittburgh.
