It took a long time for Juan Carlos Fresnadillo to follow up 28 Weeks Later, but with Intruders arriving in cinemas soon he seems keen to ensure there’s not as big a gap until his next movie. He’s already got a remake of The Crow lined up, and now Deadline reports he’s in talks to take over the Summit’s planned redo of the 80s classic Highlander.
Fast Five director Justin Lin was previously set for the project, but was forced to bow out after taking on both Terminator 5 and Fast & Furious 6. Now it seems Fresnadillo is keen to be the one, helming from a screenplay by Art Marcum and Matt Holloway (Iron Man), which was recently polished by Melissa Rosenberg (Twilight).
With the Highlander franchise having been diluted and maimed through sequels and TV series, Summit has previously said the idea is to return to the core mythology of immortals battling amongst us, hunting each other through the ages. And it’d certainly be interesting to see what Fresnadillo would do with it.
