Arnie sure seems keen to get involved in kidnapping. Before he delayed his career comeback briefly after details of a lovechild broke, he was due to make Cry Macho, in which he would have played someone who ends up kidnapping his boss’ son. That movie didn’t happen (and while there’s still talk of it getting made, it’s unlikely it will), but Arnold is still keen on kidnapping, but this time as the victim.
Deadline reports that Schwarzenegger is circling the lead role in the indie thriller Captive. The screenplay by Benjamin A. van der Veen (Che (Part 2)) centres on a successful American real estate tycoon living in Brazil. He is kidnapped and held in the prison cell of an armored truck, desperately trying to escape, while a detective specialising in ransoms searches for him.
The project is currently out to directors, and it isn’t clear when production may start. It’s likely to be a while before he makes it, as Arnie’s first project back from his hiatus as California governor is due to be Last Stand from director Jee-woon Kim, and it’s also been confirmed he’s agreed to a “substantial role” in The Expendables 2 alongside Bruce Willis and Sylvester Stallone.
