It only seems 10 minutes ago that Abigail Breslin was the precocious pre-adolescent talent getting Oscar-nominated for Little Miss Sunshine. Since then though she grown up considerably with the likes of Zombieland and is now a 15-year-old who’s signed up for a sex based teen comedy (cue family values nutters getting their knickers in a twist).
Variety reports that she’ll star in the indie comedy A Virgin Mary, which is described as being a coming of age story in the tradition of Sixteen Candles (and no, I wasn’t aware Sixteen Candles has a tradition either). Breslin will play a teen who makes a pact with her male best friend that’ll have sex with one another if they’re still virgins when they turn 18. Carter Jenkins (Valentine’s Day) will play the best friend, while Keke Palmer (Akeelah And The Bee) will be her female best buddy. Spy Kids star Daryl Sabara will also be in the movie, although it isn’t clear what role he’ll play – although I’d be willing to bet he’ll be the guy she ought to be boinking (or getting abstinence rings with, if they decide to go that way), rather than her mate.
The film will be written and directed by Berh Schacter, with shooting scheduled to start next year.
