With the three Austin powers movies, Mike Myers seemed to cement his place as a huge movie star. With the trilogy complete he moved on, and discovered that people weren’t as interested in him if he wasn’t hanging around in Wayne’s World or getting groovy as a 60s secret agent. So as with many actors who could do with a career boost, it’s time to revisit old glories.
According to Hitfix, Mike Myers is now officially signed, sealed, delivered to reprise his iconic swinging super agent in Austin Powers 4. However it’s very early days (there’d be no point the studio starting to develop the film if Myers refused to have anything to with it), so there are no other details on the movie at the moment, or whether Jay Roach, who helmed the three previous Powers flicks, will return.
Austin Powers 4 will arrive in cinemas more than a full decade since the last movie, Austin Powers in Goldmember, which hit cinemasin 2002. The character now has a whole new time period to react to. It isn’t known when the film will go into production, but it’s likely that we won’t see Austin Powers 4 until, at the very earliest, 2013.
Another Powers film has been rumoured for many years, with talks at one point of a Dr. Evil spin-off. However this is the closest it’s come to officially happening. It could still fall to bits, but if you’re an Austin Powers fan, this is definitely good news.
