Paul W.S. Anderson took a break from the Resident Evil franchise when Alexander Witt and Russell Mulcahy directed from second and third movies in the franchise (although he did act as producer), but he came back for last year’s Resident Evil: Afterlife and now Bloody Disgusting has learned that he’s coming back to write and helm the fifth installment – Resident Evil: Retribution.
His wife, who is also the star of the franchise, Milla Jovovich, will be back to for one more round as Alice. Sienna Guillory was supposed to come back as Jill Valentine, but it appears that she may be recast for this new prequel. Casting is currently underway for the characters Barry Burton (a member of S.T.A.R.S. (Special Tactics And Rescue Service)) and Leon Scott Kennedy (a U.S. Government agent).
Not much plot info has been released, but it does appear Alice will be continuing her journey, moving on from Toronto to Tokyo in this flick. Paul W.S. Anderson is hoping to shoot Resident Evil: Retribution as early as this October, with plans to get it into theaters by September 14th, 2012.
While nearly all other videogame to movie franchise has faltered, Resident Evil continues to grow strong, with the last movie grossing just under $300 million around the world, so it’s little surprise all involved are keen to make another.
