US magazine Entertainment Weekly is certainly getting into the Hunger Games fever, presenting their second cover for the movie before it’s even finshed shooting! Although the fuss over the movie is a mystery to many, the Hunger Games books by Suzanne Collins are huge with young people (just think how many hadn’t heard of Twilight before it took over multiplexes – and Hunger Games is kind of like that).
Now the first image of Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth in character as Gale and Peeta has arrived on the front cover of the latest issue of EW. The Hunger Games is set in a future America which is divided into 12 poor districts that serve a wealthy Capitol territory. Once a year, each district submits a girl and boy as tributes to participate in life-or-death games. 16-year-old Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) is a the lead character, a girl who volunteers to take the place of her sister in the tournament. Peeta (Hutcherson) is a boy from Katniss’ town also selected for the games who, during the opening ceremony, reveals his unrequited love for her. Katniss spends the rest of the story unsure whether the move was a survival ploy or a true act. Gale (Hemsworth) meanwhile teaches Katniss the way of the hunter and plays a bigger role in the subsequent trilogy.
The movie will hit UK cinemas on March 23rd, 2012.
