At Comic-Con, Robert Rodriguez said that he was still planning to turn the 1980s fantasy animation, Fire and Ice, into a big, live-action movie. Plans are obviously moving along, as EW has debuted some concept art for the movie, which certainly suggests the film will keep the sword, sorcery and boobs feel of the original. You can see thiese new images above and below.
The 1980s movie was a collaboration between artist Frank Franzetti and Fritz The Cat creator Ralph Bakshi, with the idea essentially being to bring Franzetti’s fantasy oil paintings to life, using rotocoped animation (live action with the animation essentially drawn over the top). The film saw a young warrior called Larn seeking revenge for the destruction of his village by the evil Ice Lord, Nekron. Larn then goes off on a quest to rescue the princess Teegra after she’s kidnapped by one of Nekron’s underlings.
Hopefully he’ll get this one off the ground, as Rodriguez’s previous attempts at sword and sorcery – such as a remake of Red Sonja – have stalled before camera started rolling.
