Quite a few new first look pics for upcoming movies have appeared online in the last 24 hours – mainly because the Toronto International Film Festival has announced its line-up, and so images have been released to coincide with that. Take a look below to feast your peepers on the likes of The Ides Of March starring Geroge Cloon and Ryan Gosling, Michael Fassbender and Carey Mulligan in Shame, Emile Hirsch in Killer Joe and Francis Ford Coppola’s Twixt.
The pics above are the first we’ve seen from The Ides Of March, the George Clooney directed political drama. Ryan Gosling stars as an dealistic staffer for a newbie, and rather amoral, US Presidential candidate (Clooney), who gets a crash course on dirty politics during his stint on the campaign trail. The film is based on a play by Beau Willimon and also stars Marisa Tomei, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Evan Rachel Wood and Paul Giamatti. It’s currently set for UK release on October 28th. The first images from Shame have arrived, the first movie from Steve McQueen since both he and Michael Fassbender impressed the film world with the IRA prison drama, Hunger. This one is a little different, with Fassbender on hand again as 30-something New Yorker Brandon, who finds himself unable to manage his sex life (the poor thing). The script, by Abi Morgan (Brick Lane) and McQueen, will examine the nature of need, how people live their lives and react to experiences that shame them. Mulligan plays Brandon’s troubled sister. The movie will debut at the Toronto International Film Festival, with the pics released to announce its inclusion.
These pics from William Friedkin’s Killer Joe were also released to coincide with the announcement that the movie will get its North American premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival. Here’s the official synopsis: ‘When 22-year-old drug dealer Chris (Emile Hirsch) has his stash stolen by his mother, he has to come up with six thousand dollars quick or hes dead. Desperate, he turns to Killer Joe (Matthew McConaughey) when he finds out that his mothers life insurance policy is worth $50,000. Although Joe usually demands cash up front, he finds himself willing to bend the rules in exchange for Chris attractive younger sister, Dottie, who will serve as sexual collateral until the money comes in
if it ever does.’
A couple new images have also emerged from Francis Ford Coppola’s strange seeming Twixt. The director has interested a lot of people with his plans for the movie, as he’s going to go on a tour of the US, with the promise that he’ll create a new ‘mix’ of the movie at each venue, using the various takes and angles of different scenes. It’s an intriguing idea and it’ll be interesting to hear if it works. However it’ll get its World Premiere at TIFF. The film is about a writer with a career in decline who arrives in a small town as part of his book tour and gets caught up in a murder mystery involving a young girl – and as you can see it’s rather peculias. The movie stars Val Kilmer, Bruce Dern, Elle Fanning and Ben Chaplin.
