As Comic-Con is only once a year, some films have a little trouble with they’re presentations because they’re so far away from release, that there’s not much to show. You’d have thought that would have been a problem for Snow White & the Huntsman, which hasn’t started shooting yet and isn’t due in cinemas until next June.
However the movie managed to impress Comic-Con attendees more than most expected with some character banners for the movie, which suggest a darker, more intriguing Snow White than we might have expected (particularly compared to the image we had on Friday for the other Snow White movie doing the rounds, which will be directed by Tarsem). You can see those pics, featuring Kristen Stewart, Chris Hemsworth, Charlize Theron and Sam Claflin, above and below. Comic-Con attendees also got to see some footage from a concept reel director Rupert Sanders put together to give a feel for the movie, which was full of fairies and strange spirits coming out of trees.
Many said the footage had a Lord Of The Rings feel, and producer Joe Roth name-checked that movie during the panel, which certainly suggests they have big ambitions for the film and want to create the ‘definitive’ telling of the move. Here’s the official synopsis: ‘In the epic action-adventure Snow White and the Huntsman, Kristen Stewart (Twilight) plays the only person in the land fairer than the evil queen (Oscar® winner Charlize Theron) who is out to destroy her. But what the wicked ruler never imagined is that the young woman threatening her reign has been training in the art of war with a huntsman (Chris Hemsworth, Thor) who was dispatched to kill her. Sam Claflin (Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides) joins the cast as the prince long enchanted by Snow Whites beauty and power.
‘The breathtaking new vision of the legendary tale is from Joe Roth, the producer of Alice in Wonderland, producer Sam Mercer (The Sixth Sense) and acclaimed commercial director and state-of-the-art visualist Rupert Sanders.’ It’ll be in cinemas next June.
