Although details on it have been slim, it’s been known for a while that Charlie Kaufman – the Oscar-winning writer of Being John Malkovich, Adaptation and Eternal Sunshine – has been working on his second directorial effort (following Synedoche, New York), Frank Or Francis.
Now Deadline reports that the cast for the movie is coming together, with Jack Black and Steve Carrell now attached to the movie, and Steve Carell in talks to join them. Not a huge amount of info is known about the movie (Kaufman’s projects are always wrapped in mystery, and sometimes only get a little more clear after you’ve actually watched them), although it’s said it’s ‘a volatile back and forth between a film director (Frank) and an online blogger (Francis), who takes delight in berating his cinematic talent.’
It isn’t known who these actors will play, although it would make sense if Black was Francis and either Carell or Cage is Frank.
Kaufman loves to explore the creative process, and him taking on the world of film should be very interesting indeed (he dealt with it tangentially in being John Malkovich, but this movie should be a more head-on satire). frank Or Francis is likely to shoot next year, and it’ll certainly be one to look out for.
