A year ago, it seemed that Disney had pretty much given up on adapting Philip K Dick’s short story, King Of The Elves, into an animated movie. Along with Newt, it disappeared off the release schedule (it has been given a 2012 date), and seemed to have been totally binned. However it turns out it was just put on the back burner, as Variety reports it’s picking up steam again, with a new director confirmed, and a fresh writer brought in to give a new take on the material.
Chris Williams (Bolt) will take over from Aaron Blaise and Robert Walker in the directing chair, while Horrible Bosses writer Michael Markowitz will be on scripting duties. There’s no news on whether this means a drastic change of direction, or just a need for fresh blood to bring things up to Disney standards.
The story follows a band of elves and one dwarf living in the Mississippi Delta who tap a human as their king after he saves them from an evil troll.
When it will eventually arrive isn’t certain, although it look like a Christmas 2013 release is possible.
