A while ago, Andrew Dominik was planning to write and direct an American do-over of the French thriller Tell No One, but that seems to have been shelved, as it’s been announced that Ben Affleck is now attached to helm. Warner and Universal are teaming up to produce the flick, taking over from Focus Features (a subsidiary of Universal), which was was previously involved.
Tell No One has had a rather circuitous route to Hollywood, as while the original novel was written by US author Harlan Coben, Tinsel Town didn’t get interested until a French version was made, with Guillaume Canet writing and directing the gallic take on the story. Producer Kathleen Kennedy then bought the right and has been trying to get it up and running ever since, first with Dominik and now with Ben Affleck. It seem Dominik’s script won’t be used either, as Deadline says that Chris Terrio, who wrote Affleck’s imminent directing project, Argo, will now come up with a new script.
Tell No One is about a pediatrician who is out one night frolicking by a lake with his wife when she suddenly vanishes and he is severely beaten when he tries to find her. When she turns up murdered, he is the prime suspect. Thats until shes declared a victim of a caught serial killer. Years later, bodies turn up in the same spot and the nightmare is repeated, the pediatrician again under suspicion. Right around that time, hes given evidence that his wife wasnt dead at all.
The project is only newly set up at Universal and Warner, so it’ll be a while before Tell No One starts to shoot.
