At the beginning of last month it was revealed that Matt Damon was busy trying to set up his directorial debut, based on the script Father Daughter Time: A Tale of Armed Robbery and Eskimo Kisses by Matthew Aldrich. At the time, it seemed Damon would be the main star as well, but now it appears that while it’s possible he’ll still appear, John Krasinski should be in it as well.
The news comes via a bit of piecing together by Vulture, who spoke to Damon at the American Institute for Stuttering 5th Annual Benefit Gala. They asked him when he would start directing, to which he replied, “I am coming closer to a directorial thing, yes. Ive got a few things that I really want to direct, and one Im actually going to start at the first quarter of next year.” Before adding, John Krasinskis in it.
Damon has also been rumoured to be thinking about directing The Trade, about a scandal that erupted in 1973 when it was revealed that two New York Yankees pitchers, Fritz Peterson and Mike Kekich, had decided to swap wives. Although it has started off as a few swinging one-offs, they eventually decided to make the switch permanent. While it was an equitable arrangement that pleased all parties, the public wasn’t quite as understanding. However that film is apparently having some legal issues, and so Father Daughter Time seems to be the movie he’s talking about.
Not too much is known about that script, other than that it focuses on a man who goes on the lam with his daughter, who’s also his accomplice, and they go on a three-state crime spree. It’ll be interesting to see if Damon can match friend Ben Affleck in the directing stakes, having already walloped him in the acting arena.
