After Fast & Furious 5, it seem Dwayne Johnson is the man to call on if your action franchise needs a bit more muscle, as he’s now in talks to star in the upcoming Paramount Pictures sequel G.I. Joe 2 – which now seems to be officially called G.I. Joe: Cobra Strikes, according to Variety.
Roadblock is a heavy machine gunner and cook, and also the cousin of Heavy Duty, who was portrayed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje in the first film. It isn’t known if Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje will return as Heavy Duty, although a story from March indicated that Duke (Channing Tatum), Snake Eyes (Ray Park), and Storm Shadow (Byung-hun Lee) will be the only characters from Rise of Cobra to return for G.I. Joe 2.
The ‘Cobra Strikes’ names does suggest Cobra will be the bad guys after they rose in the first film, even though Jospeh Gordon-Levitt has confirmed he won’t be back as Cobra Commander. It’s not known if that role will be refilled, or if we’ll only get to see his agents in the sequel.
Jon M. Chu (Justin Bieber: Never Say Never) is directing the movie from a screenplay by Zombieland writers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick. An August 10, 2012 release date has already been pencilled in.
