Joe Wright is certainly putting together a great cast for his Tom Stoppard scripted adaptation of the classic Tolstoy novel, Anna Karenina, as The Daily Mail reports (so yes, feel free to be slightly sceptical that this is correct) reports that Saoirse Ronan, Kelly Macdonald, Matthew Macfadyen, Olivia Williams, Andrea Riseborough, and Domhnall Gleeson have all signed on for the movie.
Keira Knightley and Jude Law have been attached for quite a while, with Keira portraying the title character, while Jude Law will play her husband. The story follows Anna as she seeks to create a new life for herself by trying to get out of a loveless marriage, while lusting after a dashing soldier, Vronsky, who’ll be played by Aaron Johnson.
Saoirse Ronan will play Kitty, the sister of Kelly Macdonald’s character, the ever-pregnant Dolly, while Matthew Macfadyen will beOblonsky, Anna’s brother and husband to Dolly (the book’s about quite a big family, so how everyone’s connected does get a bit complicated). Olivia Williams is set to portray Countess Vronskaya, the mother of Vronsky, while Andrea Riseborough will play Princess Betsy, and Domhnall Gleeson joins the cast as Levin.
Shooting is due to start in September, in Great Britain and Russia.
