It’s been rumoured for quite a while that Orlando Bloom would be returning to Middle Earth for The Hobbit, but there’s been no confirmation of that – until now! Director Peter Jackson took to The Hobbit’s Facebook page to tell the world Legolas will be back.
Here’s what the helmer has to say: ‘Ten years ago, Orlando Bloom created an iconic character with his portrayal of Legolas. I’m excited to announce today that we’ll be revisiting Middle Earth with him once more. I’m thrilled to be working with Orlando. Funny thing is, I look older-and he doesn’t! I guess that’s why he makes such a wonderful elf.’
The character of Legolas doesn’t actually appear in Tolkien’s book, however his father does and Elves live for a long time, so he would have been around at the time of this Lord Of The Rings prequel, so it won’t be tough to add him in. Plus Bloom could probably do with a bit of a career boost, so he’s likely to be happy to return, even if it’s only a relatively small role. He joins fellow The Lord of The Rings cast members Cate Blanchett, Elijah Wood, Ian McKellen, Ian Holm, and Hugo Weaving who all reprise their original roles in The Hobbit.
