Charlie Hunnam has gone from bouncing around on Aidan Gillen in the groundbreaking Brit show Queer As Folk, to becoming a US TV star (and writer), and now it looks like he could become a fully fledged movie star. Deadline reports that director Guillermo Del Toro has chosen the Sons Of Anarchy star to play the lead role in his planned monster movie, Pacific Rim, and the actor is currently in negotiations.
The film, scripted by Travis Beacham, is set in a future where giant malevolent creatures threaten to destroy the earth, city by city. To combat its annihilation, the planet must band together and use highly advanced weapons technology to eradicate the growing threat. THR adds that the film is influenced by mecha, suggesting the way humanity fights back is with giant robots, piloted by people.
There’s no news on the exact role Humman will play, althought it’s fair to say he’ll probably be kicking some ass. Hopefully it’ll also mean he gets to cut the daft biker hairdo he’s had for Sons Of Anarchy.
