Universal is going younger and younger in their search for a male lead for Snow White And The Huntsman. They were in talks with 52-year-old Viggo Mortensen, tried to land 42-year-old Hugh Jackman, and the new frontrunner, according to Variety, is 27-year-old Chris Hemsworth, who currently riding a wave of interest due to Thor.
It seems both Chris Hemsworth and Joel Edgerton are in contention to play the Huntsman, although the role is Hemsworth’s if he wants it. There is speculation that with these two being significantly younger than Mortensen and Jackman, Universal could be pushing a heightened romantic interest between the lead, with a younger actor playing the Huntsman alongside the 21-year-old Kristen Stewart, who plays Snow White. The film concentrates of the relationship between Snow and the Huntsman, with the latter told to take her to the forest and kill her, but instead training her to survive on her own.
There is no official offer out to Chris Hemsworth yet, and there may be a scheduling conflict with The Avengers, so the deal isn’t quite sealed yet.
