Back last summer, TRON: Legacy director Joseph Kosinski became loosely attached to Archangels, and now Variety reports that his involvement has become official and writer Adam Cozad has been brought in to rework the original script by Andrew Will.
The film is set in the near future and is described as a Bourne-style thriller crossed with alien elements. The protagonist is part of an elite force that is tasked with tracking aliens who get past Earths defense system. So basically a more serious Men In Black.
Cozad made the 2009 Black List with his adaptation The Gray Man, which like Archangels is also set up at New Regency. He’s also one of the writers on the Untitled Jack Ryan Project at Paramount.
No production schedule is known for Archangels, and it is unclear when it might get made. At the moment it looks like Oblivion will be next for Kosinski, which has Tom Cruise in early talks to star (but at the moment doesn’t have an official studio home, although Universal is likely to snap it up). Kosinski is also developing a Black Hole remake for Disney and it’s believed another TRON movie is in the works. He’s certainly a busy guy, so who knows where Archangels will slip into that lot.
