Thanks to House he’s one of the most famous people in the world, but the fact is we saw more of Hugh Laurie on the big screen before he became internationally renowned than we do now, other than some voice roles. However he’s got The Oranges in the can and now Deadline reports he’s lined up Master Pip for Shrek and Lion The Witch And The Wardrobe director Andrew Adamson.
The story is adapted from the Lloyd Jones novel which centres on Mr. Watts (Hugh Laurie), the last white man left in the embattled town of Bougainville, which sits on the island of Papua New Guinea. He opens a school in town, where he reads his favourite novel, Charles Dickens’ Great Expectations, to the children. The book mirrors the troubled lives of the children, and Mr. Watts forms a bond with the young students. It doesn’t exactly sound thrilling, but hopefully there’s more to it than Hugh Laurie reading a book.
It’ll be Adamson’s first movie since Prince Caspian, and rather a change of pace for him. It begins shooting in New Zealand next month.
