While it’s been in development for quite a while, it seems there’s suddenly a lot more momentum behind the idea of remaking The Crow, with director Juan Carlos Fresnadillo (28 Weeks Later) coming onboard a few days ago and now THR reporting that Bradley Cooper in it talks for the title role.
He’s currently in early negotiations for the part after Cooper met with Fresnadillo in Spain and the two hit is off ‘and shared a vision for the character and the film’. The actor is apparently keen to board the project, although Crow fans already seem less than enthused with the Hangover star taking the role, probably because he’s yet to show he has what it takes for rather gothic tale of a a rock musician who is murdered while trying to save his fiancée from thugs. However, he is the resurrected by supernatural forces and seeks revenge.
Can Cooper pull it off? His screen persona seems far too amiable, but that doesn’t mean he lacks the acting chops to do something a bit different. And it’s also true that Crow devotees probably wouldn’t be happy with anyone but Brandon Lee in the lead role, who’s on-set death during the making of the 1993 version is so bound up in the mythos of the franchise.
Relativity Media is now pushing The Crow hard, so expect to hear more soon.
