Despite the fact that when given something to do, she’s actually got a fair amount of talent, Jessica Biel seems destined to be the sort of actress who just gets cast when they need a random pretty face. Now, Variety reports that Sony Pictures has offered her one of the two female leads in director Len Wiseman’s Total Recall remake.
At this time, it is unclear which of the two roles she will take. In the original, Sharon Stone played Lori, the dutiful wife (and spy) of Douglas Quaid (played in the new version by Colin Farrell). The other female character is Melina, as played by Rachel Ticotin, who helped Quaid join the Resistance. Biel originally read for Melina, but there’s some indication she may have got the role of Lori instead.
While the Arnie version sees him having visions of being a secret agent on Mars, which he comes to believe are real rather than botched vacation memory implant, in the new version, it seems it’s going to be about whether or not he’s an unwitting spy for one of two rival nation states, with different sources saying different things about whether Mars will be involved.
Recently it was reported that Kate Bosworth and Diane Kruger were at the top of the list for these two roles, and it’s believed actresses are still being considered for the other female lead. As yet, talks with Biel haven’t begun, but presuming her schedule isn’t too busy, she’s likely to sign on.
