Will Sasso and Sean Hayes may not exactly be the dynamo teaming of Jim Carrey, Sean Penn and Benicio Del Toro (who were all once attached), but they’re both now signed on to the Farrelly Brothers’ The Three Stooges, which is set to start shooting later this month.
Sasso’s involvement was announced a couple weeks ago, and now Deadline reports that Hayes, best known as Jack in Will & Grace, has joined the production as Curly after impressing the Farrelly’s with his abilities to play a lovable simpleton, full of manic energy. And as he showed in Will & Grace, he’s certainly good at physical comedy.
The search is still on for someone to play Moe, and the directors had better get a move on if they plan to start filming in the next few weeks.
Although a biopic, tracing the comedy trio’s rise from an orphanage to the top of the entertainment tree, the Farrellys have indicated it will be done on the style of a trio of Three Stooges shorts, which is certainly an interesting idea.
All I can say is thank goodness they didn’t cast Hayes as Moe, as it would just be asking for a flurry of off-colour jokes.
