Warner has apparently been a bit worried about Green Lantern, ever since a very bad reaction to the first trailer a few months ago. Many fans deriding the comic tone, as well as the CGI suit Ryan Reynolds’ character wears as the superhero (although personally I thought it was potentially pretty cool). Reynolds has been on the defensive, saying the film isn’t a comedy in the way the trailer presented it, while the studio has pushed the fact that the effects weren’t 100% finished. However now in a big push for the film, Warner has shown selected scenes at Wondercon and released four minutes of that footage on the web for us to take a look at.
It basically plays out like an extended trailer, and certainly doesn’t make the film look as funny or indeed quite like anything we’ve seen before. There are still a few issues with the suit, but to be honest probably more pressing is the need to ensure Reynolds truly fits into the largely CGI world much of the film takes place in. It does all look pretty cool and rather spectacular though, but as it’s something very different to other comic book movies, it’ll be interesting to see how audiences respond.
Take a look below for the new footage, as well as a couple of TV spots that have arrived. Oh, and the big pic above is a brand new poster! Green Lantern hits cinemas June 17th.
