With two Snow White tales battling it out to get made, Relativity’s Snow White (previously The Brothers Grimm: Snow White, but as it was recently revealed they’re veering from the idea of going back to the original tale, the new title makes more sense) was a bit behind Snow White And The Hunstman by not having someone signed up to play the princess. Kristen Stewart is on duty for the latter, and now it’s been revealed who’ll be Snow White in the former.
While it was rumoured Saorise Ronan was in talks for the role, Lily Collins blew away Relativity’s execs with her audition, according to THR, and won the role. Blind Side star Collins (who is indeed the daughter of drummer Phil), is shaping up to be a big star, as while we haven’t seen her in much yet, she has Priest and Abduction coming out this year, as well as Odd Thomas, The Mortal Instruments and now Snow White in 2012.
The film is, according to the press release announcing Collins’ casting, ‘a retelling of one of the most beloved fables of all-time, (which) will eschew the traditional story in favour of a more modern tale full of comedy and adventure. After her evil stepmother kills her father and destroys the kingdom, Snow White bands together with a gang of seven quarrelsome dwarfs to reclaim what is rightly hers.’
Collins will star alongside Julia Roberts as the Queen and Armie Hammer as Prince Andrew Alcott. Tarsem Singh is directing, with production due to start in May, with Lily fitting in the movie before Mortal Instruments begins production. It’s currently scheduled for a June 2012 release, several months ahead of Snow White And The Huntsman.
