You may not know much about Sam Claflin now, but as he has a major role in Pirates Of The Caribbean: On Stranger Tides, expect to hear a lot more about him in the next coming months. And as he’s going to be famous but isn’t at the moment, it’s a good time for producers to sign him up for movies, in case his asking price rockets when Pirates 4 comes out.
That seems to be the thinking of the guys behind an adaptation of Joseph Delaney’s young adult series The Wardstone Chronicles, with the first of those book, The Spook’s Apprentice, coming to the screen as The Seventh Son, as Variety reports they’ve cast Claflin Tom, while Swedish actress Alicia Vikander will be Alice. The roles were much fought over by young actors, with Alex Pettyfer and Jennifer Lawrence rumoured at one point, while Caleb Landry-Jones, James Frecheville, Imogen Poots and Gabrielle Wild actually auditioned earlier this week, with Claflin and Vikander beating them out.
They’ll join Jeff Bridges in the movie, who’ll play an Obi-Wan like mentor to Claflin’s magical novice. Julianne Moore meanwhile is in talks to be a witch, presumably Malkin, the mother of Alice, who may or may not have special powers herself.
While the film doesn’t officially have the greenlight, that’s expected to come soon, with Warner Bros eyeing a 2013 release.
