There’s little doubt that one of the most popular aspects of the Madagascar movies has been the penguins. Dreamworks Animation has obviously realised that, producing a series of shorter animations features the characters, including some straight-to-DVD titles and a TV series which is currently in its second season. And now they’re going to get their own film, with DreamWorks planning an entire movie based aroudn them.
According to THR, the studio has hired MegaMind screenwriters Alan J. Schoolcraft and Brent Simons to script this new adventure, which will follow the exploits of paramilitary penguins Skipper, Kowalski, Private, and Rico.
No director is attached to the Madagascar penguins spin-off at this time, and before they get they own film, they’ll be seen in Madagascar 3, which hits theaters on May 18, 2012.
