There’s been a bit of a casting shake-up on Pixar’s upcoming movie Brave, with Scottish actress Kelly Macdonald coming in to replace Reese Witherspoon, who stepped away due to scheduling issues. Macdonald will voice Merida, a Scottish princess who seeks out on a journey to bring peace to her kingdom.
And while it was revealed back in October that they were replacing director Brenda Chapman, Pixar’s first female director, with Mark Andrews, it has been confirmed that both will get a helming credit.
The info comes from EW, which also has the concept art from the movie which you can see above and below. Here’s their description of the film: Brave is set in the mystical Scottish Highlands, where Merida is the princess of a kingdom ruled by King Fergus (Billy Connolly) and Queen Elinor (Emma Thompson). An unruly daughter and an accomplished archer, Merida one day defies a sacred custom of the land and inadvertently brings turmoil to the kingdom. In an attempt to set things right, Merida seeks out an eccentric old Wise Woman (Julie Walters) and is granted an ill-fated wish. Also figuring into Merida’s quest – and serving as comic relief – are the kingdom’s three lords: the enormous Lord MacGuffin (Kevin McKidd), the surly Lord Macintosh (Craig Ferguson), and the disagreeable Lord Dingwall (Robbie Coltrane).
It’s certainly a little different to other Pixar movies, but with their track record, you’ve got to hope they’ll put it out of the bag once more. Brave should hit cinemas summer 2012.
