For several years there’s been talks of Warner developing a Justice League movie, which even got as far at one point as having a director – George Miller – and a cast including the likes of Armie Hammer. However with fans a bit miffed at the idea of having a different actor playing Batman while the Christian Bale series was still running, and problems with the budget, changes to Australian tax credits and the 2008 writer’s strike, the whole thing fell apart.
There have been ocassional whisperings since then, but nothing solid. Indeed there’s nothing concrete now, but in an LA Times profile on incoming Warner Bros. studio president Jeff Robinov, there’s a hint within the piece that ‘Hes then aiming to release new Batman and Superman films in 2012 and Justice League, a teaming of DCs top heroes, in 2013.’
Some have suggested this is just the writer’s fever dream, and it is true there’s nothing to substantiate it, but it does suggest that at the very least Warner is still keen on a Justice League flick, although I wouldn’t be surpised if 2013 is way too soon, and that the studio wants to see how Marvel’s The Avengers does before they commit to their own superhero mash-up movie.
It’s also true that you could still have the problem of having two sets of the same characters running at once, unless Henry Cavill’s contract means he’d play Superman in a Justice League movie, while Adrianna Palicki jumps over from the upcoming Wonder Woman TV show.
