With production on the 80s hair metal jukebox musical Rock Of Ages due to begin in May, Deadline reports that director Adam Shankman is trying to secure actress Amy Adams for a role. If she takes the part, Adams would play Constance Sack, a reporter who is working on an expose of rock star Stacee Jaxx (Tom Cruise), but ends up sleeping with him.
The role was originally offered to Anne Hathaway, but she had to turn it down due to the fact she will be busy portraying Selina Kyle in The Dark Knight Rises. The part also calls for a duet, with the journalist and Stacee Jaxx singing I Want to Know What Love Is by Foreigner – and quite frankly, who could turn down the bizarre opportunity of singing a duet with Tom Cruise?
Also circling the musical is Paul Giamatti, with THR reporting that he may play Paul Gill, a music exec brimming with LA charm.
Rock Of Ages tells the story of a small town girl (Julianne Hough) who comes to Hollywood for the 1980s music scene and is nearly destroyed by it. She catches the eye of Stacee Jaxx, an arrogant rocker at the height of his career, but ends up as a stripper in a club run by Mary J. Blige’s character. Alec Baldwin will also star.
