Casting is heating up for Columbia’s planned remake of Total Recall, with several actresses reading for two prominent roles. Kate Bosworth is auditioning this week for the role of Lori, while Eva Mendes and Paula Patton are up to play Melina, with Jessica Biel and Eva Green apparently also being considered. Diane Kruger was asked to audition, but Deadline reports that she’s now declined to read for the role.
In Paul Verhoeven’s 1990 version Total Recall, Lori was played by Sharon Stone, the dutiful wife who turns out to be a spy for the agency. Rachel Ticotin was Melina, who helps Arnie’s Douglas Quaid go along with the Resistance. However with Colin Farrell now playing Quaid, it’s likely to be a very different movie to the Schwarzenegger one, despite having the same character names.
Len Wiseman is set to direct from a script by Kurt Wimmer, Mark Bomback, and James Vanderbilt, with production scheduled to start on May 15 in Toronto. An August 2012 release has already been set.
