While it appears Jodie Foster will indeed be appearing in Neill Blomkamp’s upcoming sci-fi thriller Elysium despite some doubt being thrown on that last month, she suggested at a recent press conference for The Beaver that her part in Elysium was a relatively small role, giving her plenty of time to think about other projecta. So what is she wanting to do? Well, it seems she fancies directing a sci-fi thriller of her own.
Here what she told the LA Times about the movie she’s hoping to helm: “There’s a family element to it, but it’s much more a genre movie. I’d like to do that ’cause that’s a world I live in as an actor but I’ve never really gone to as a director. I’d still have to have all the other stuff in a film. It can’t just be, ‘There’s a bad guy, there’s a monster.’ It has to have all the other stuff too.”
Foster says that this sci-fi thriller is still in the script stage: “It’s not anywhere close to being ready. I don’t write. I rewrite, but I don’t write, so that always puts me at the mercy of some enormous talent that comes out of the woodwork that somehow has the same obsessions as me.”
Sadly though, that’s all the details we’ve got!
While Foster has helmed Little Man Tate, Home For The Holidays and the upcoming The Beaver (as well as spending years trying unsuccessfully to get Flora Plum off the ground), her directorial efforts have been few and far between. However this makes it sound as is she wants to get behind the camera more often, which to be honest, wouldn’t be a bad thing.
