Alan Tudyk, beloved member of the Firefly cast who can next be seen in Transformers: Dark of the Moon, is the latest actor to sign on for Timur Bekmambetov’s much anticipated Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter.
Variety reports that the actor will play Stephen A. Douglas, an ally to the Southern vampires in this alternate universe created by writer Seth Grahame-Smith. The real Stephen A. Douglas held famous debates with Abraham Lincoln in 1858, where he was in favour of slavery. However in Seth Grahame-Smith’s book, he’s in league with the Southern vampires who are at the heart of the conflict that starts the Civil War – a conflict as much to do with the undead as it is to do with slavery.
It’s quite interesting that despite being one of the most coveted project currently doing the rounds, Bekmambetov is going for talent over star power in his casting choices, with Benjamin Walker as the title character and Mary Elizabeth Winstead as Mary Todd, while Anthony Mackie, Jimmi Simpson and Dominic Cooper take key supporting roles.
