I know this trailer is meant to be about all the fun and sweetness of man’s relationship with his canine chums, but to me, I couldn’t help wondering how bloody miserable it must have been in the Aussie outback in the 1970s if the only thing they had to rally around was a stray dog who wandered all over the place. Red Dog, starring Josh Lucas, is based on the true story of a Kelpie/Cattle dog cross that was well-known for his travels through Western Australia’s Pilbara region. There is a statue in his memory in Dampier, which is one of the towns to which he often returned (and does suggest that yes indeed, a dog is all the people there had back then). He had several owners and travelled on his own a lot, and became so famous that banks even used his for their advertising. Click below for the trailer.
